Design Innovation Centre (DIC) has been established in government educational institutions under National Initiative for Design Innovation (NIDI) Scheme as a flagship programme by MHRD under a Hub and Spoke Model with the lead institution acting as the mentor for synergizing and leveraging the potential of the institutes. DIC is a platform for innovations by students, faculty and citizens to give ideas that can be developed as products and processes. The mandate of DIC is also to act as an enabling centre or incubation centre for start-ups. Presently, there are 92 institutions that are involved in design and innovation; 20 Design Innovation Centre (DIC) Hubs and 7- Spokes. The DIC hubs include SPA- New Delhi, 10 IITs and 9 Central Government Universities. In addition, there is Open Design School (ODS) and National Design Innovation Network (NDIN) linking the institutions.

DIC at SPA-New Delhi organized an ALL INDIA DIC MEET 2019 under the aegis of Ministry of Human Resource and Development on 11th and 12th April, 2019 at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre (DAIC), Janpath, Windsor Place, New Delhi (BHIM HALL). The meet was coordinated by Prof. Dr. Sanjukkta Bhaduri, DIC coordinator and Dean (Research) SPA New Delhi. The agenda of the Meet was to share knowledge about Innovation, entrepreneurships and marketing; enhance interdisciplinary design focusing on innovation and creativity; display and exhibit innovative projects and products to endorse innovation culture and finally collaborate amongst Industry, Academia, Government Institutions, Research laboratories, etc. for Marketing as well as Outreach of innovated products. There was a launch of the All India and SPA DIC Brochure, All India DIC and SPA Web Portal National Design Innovation Network (NDIN) and Open Design School (ODS) over the two days.
